Youth & Member Development

Youth and Member Development focuses on providing pathways and opportunities for members whilst they are involved in the surf life saving movement.

Youth / Cadet Development

Youth/Cadet development aims to assist in facilitating a smooth transition from junior (nippers) into active surf lifesavers by through a variety of programs and initiatives that ultimately provide the mechanisms to develop member teamwork, leadership, fitness and lifesaving skills. Young people are the future of surf lifesaving and Nobby’s Beach SLSC, and we hope to nurture our members along their pathway to surf lifesavers to ensure the future sustainability of the club and the movement.

A number of internal and external programs, events and activities to involve and engage youth/cadet members occur throughout the year.

  • Social Activities (BBQ Lunches, Camps, Movie Nights)

  • Completion of their Surf Rescue Certificate & other awards under the guidance of club instructors/assessors.

  • Surf Sports training and competition opportunities. A tailored training program will provide opportunities to learn new surf skills and transition from junior equipment to senior equipment.

  • Opportunities to attend leadership development camps at Branch, State and National levels.

  • The implementation of state administered engagement program - Youth Involvement Program (YIPs), which rewards and recognises youth participants for their commitment but encourages on-going participation across a range of activities across multiple areas of the club and movement.

For all information regarding any youth/cadet initiatives or information about the YIPs program, please get in touch with our Youth/Cadet Officer - youthdevelopment@nobbysbeachslsc.com

Member Development

In addition to providing opportunities for cadet & youth members, a number of opportunities also exist for adult members to develop leadership skills, teamwork and organisational involvement.

There are many ways that you can be involved in surf lifesaving and there are a number of programs and activities that SLSA and SLSQ run to help keep you motivated, keep you involved, and that help you get ahead in life outside lifesaving!

The club also provides:

  • opportunities to stay fit & healthy through surf sports training for adult and masters members

  • access to chaplaincy and consultation services through Life Saving Chaplaincy Australia (LSCA)

  • guidance on progression of surf lifesaving awards and qualifications

Our membership is our continued priority and the development of our members remains at the forefront of our organisation, so members can continue to be involved and value their contributions to the surf lifesaving movement, ensuring the club is sustainable for many years to come.
