SLSQ Sport Education Project - The FUN starts with YOU!

The FUN starts with YOU!

Surf Life Saving Queensland are happy to launch the new parent education and awareness program – The FUN starts with YOU.

Exciting times are around the corner with our surf sport and nipper season about to kick off. As leaders of our clubs, we need to be mindful of our product and who is involved  with our young members.

The volunteers can be forgotten when parents or guardians get a little “closer” then they should be at training days, nippers and most importantly carnivals.

I urge anyone who has the ability to promote this simple and effective poster to do so. Below are a couple of examples on how to promote the expectations of a parent whilst engaging in our environments. I want clubs to flood the message of safer environments and letting the youth and volunteers flourish. Please get your hands dirty and get this messaging out as this adds to retention and recruitment of our young members.

Promotion Examples

  • Post on club social media platforms and newsletter.

  • Create your own club awareness/education program on the effects negative behaviour at junior sport.

  • Allow coaches and age managers to advertise the message apart of their weekly product.

  • Hang at BBQ and food areas at Sunday nippers.

  • Print onto corflute signage to be attached to tents or star pickets.

Let Kids Be Kids is a national campaign to raise awareness of appropriate sideline behaviour at junior sport. Watch the video above to understand what it is all about!

Messaging for our parents after the awareness must be about becoming a volunteer and giving them a role which will positively impact the club environment. Online courses for coaching, age managers and officials are now all online ready for parents to get started.

These are simple ways which take little effort but have a major impact on the education of our people.

Please contact administration if you have any questions about this project or other things around this space.
