Nobby’s Beach SLSC offers a training program open to all members who wish to keep fit and healthy whilst also improving their surf lifesaving skills. Currently we offer a dedicated water event training, beach event training and surf rescue training. All members are encouraged to attend as the overall program is designed to cater for all age groups and levels of competency. The program aims to encourage club unity and has a ‘team focus’ to foster the development of participants both socially and competitively within the club.

The program is progressive throughout the season and builds towards major carnivals at the end of the season. The overall structure of the program is developed to cater for surf sports competitors in our club from U9 (nippers) through to masters. Weekly plans generally consist of morning and afternoon sessions at a variety of locations. The sessions themselves are planned with the intention of creating the best possible training environment to compare to typical conditions consistent with the location of major carnivals. In addition, sessions are planned with uttermost consideration of participant safety and maximising the effectiveness of the time allocated for the session.

All nippers participating in water training are also required to have completed their respective age competition proficiency. As such, sessions are designed with participants being able to achieve this standard.

As with any kind of sports training in Australia, the Nobby’s program aims to fit within the components of the FTEM Framework (Foundations, Talent, Elite, Mastery), a sporting development framework created by the Australian Institute of Sport as a representative of the ‘whole of sport’ pathway continuum. In addition, Nobby’s Beach SLSC supports the Australian Sports Commission’s Let Kids be Kids campaign to stamp out poor sideline behaviour.
