Become a Volunteer Lifesaver
Make a Difference in Your Community
Have you ever thought about becoming a volunteer surf lifesaver?
At Nobbys Beach Surf Life Saving Club, our volunteer lifesavers are the heart of everything we do. Every patrol, rescue, first aid response, and community event is made possible by dedicated members who give their time to help keep our beach safe.
Whether you're looking to give back to the community, challenge yourself, learn lifesaving skills, or simply meet new people, there's a place for you at Nobbys Beach SLSC.
Who Can Become a Lifesaver?
There are two main pathways to becoming an active volunteer lifesaver:
Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC)
Minimum Age: 13 years (must be 13 on the date of assessment)
The Surf Rescue Certificate is designed for younger members who want to begin their lifesaving journey. SRC members develop the skills and knowledge to assist patrols under the guidance of experienced lifesavers while continuing to build their confidence in the surf.
Bronze Medallion
Minimum Age: 15 years (must be 15 on the date of assessment)
The Bronze Medallion is the nationally recognised qualification that allows members to become fully qualified volunteer surf lifesavers. Bronze members gain the skills required to perform surf rescues, provide first aid, use rescue equipment, and patrol Australia's beaches.
Ready to Join?
Whether you've lived on the Gold Coast your whole life or have just moved to the area, we'd love to welcome you to our club.
No previous lifesaving experience is required—just a willingness to learn, challenge yourself, and become part of an incredible volunteer organisation.

Your Journey After Qualification
Once you've completed your SRC or Bronze Medallion, you'll officially join our team of volunteer lifesavers.
You'll be allocated to one of our patrol groups, where you'll patrol alongside experienced members and become part of a close-knit team.
Our members generally patrol one day every 2–3 weekends throughout the patrol season, helping keep Nobbys Beach safe for the community.
What You'll Gain
Becoming a volunteer lifesaver is about much more than standing on the beach.
As a member of Nobbys Beach SLSC you'll:
Learn nationally recognised lifesaving, rescue and first aid skills.
Build confidence in and around the ocean.
Develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
Meet lifelong friends and become part of a welcoming community.
Access opportunities to complete further training, qualifications and leadership programs.
Represent the club in surf sports, education and community events if you choose.
Make a genuine difference by helping keep our beach safe.
The learning doesn't stop once you receive your qualification. Your skills continue to develop every patrol through ongoing mentoring, training and practical experience alongside experienced volunteer lifesavers.
Bronze Medallion Course
Our Bronze Medallion courses are run several times throughout the year.
The course typically takes 5–6 sessions to complete and is generally conducted on Saturdays or Sundays, making it accessible for students, workers and families.
Our experienced trainers will guide you through every step of the course, regardless of your previous experience.
